Zverev's Beijing Run Ends in Quarterfinals Loss to Medvedev
Alexander Zverev's run in Beijing came to an end yesterday, as he was defeated by Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals. The German player struggled with his form and made too many errors, ultimately losing the match 3:6, 3:6 in just 1 hour and 22 minutes.
Zverev had complained about renewed back pain a day before the match, which may have contributed to his performance. He struggled with his forehand, making too many unforced errors throughout the match. The German player also lost his temper twice, throwing his racket and receiving a warning for one of the incidents.
Zverev had been close to victory earlier in the tournament, leading Félix Auger-Aliassime 2-0 in their match in Beijing before ultimately losing in four sets. His loss to Medvedev marks his sixth consecutive defeat against the Russian player.
Zverev's early exit from the tournament means he will not be competing in the semifinals in Beijing. The tournament continues in Shanghai as early as Wednesday, with Zverev having a bye in the first round. However, his recent form and back pain may raise concerns about his prospects in the upcoming matches.
