Top-Ranked Tennis Pro Zverev on a Roll, Shades Ex-Coach Becker Post Stuttgart Win

Zverev Speaks After First Win: No Interaction with Becker (yet) - Zverev post-match response: Lack of communication with Becker following the competition commencement.

Hey there! Let's dive deep into an action-packed tennis tournament in Stuttgart! The world's number three tennis player Alexander Zverev has made waves, advancing to the quarterfinals with grace. Apparently, he hasn't been catching up much with former coach Boris Becker yet...for some surprising reasons you wouldn't believe!

First, there was a heated argument, then there was a simmering court battle: Alexander Zverev took down Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the grass tournament in Stuttgart. Despite his victory, Zverev revealed no contact with tennis legend Boris Becker since. "Not a peep. Dead silent. Just like that," Zverev commented following his win, certainly a jolt to tennis fanatics worldwide.

"Not exactly a Wimbledon Final display"

Armed with a bye in the first round, Zverev defeated Moutet 6:2, 7:6 (9:7). The entire spectacle lasted a minute shy of 2 hours. The initial set saw Zverev break Moutet's service three times. However, the second set was a nail-biter, testing Zverev's might. "This wasn't your typical Five-Star Wimbledon Show," Zverev said, but he seemed content with his victory over the 91st-ranked player. American Brandon Nakashima stands next for Zverev in the quarters.

For Zverev, his win in Stuttgart marks his first grass court battle since 2019 and his comeback after that quarterfinal disappointment in the French Open. Not to mention, his comeback after addressing the harsh criticism from three-time Wimbledon champion Becker at the tournament's start.

Newest grass quarterfinalist since Becker's time

Before Zverev, 17-year-old Justin Engel already booked his first ATP Tour quarterfinal spot. The Nuremberg youngster bested seventh-seeded American Alex Michelsen 6:4, 6:4 in his maiden grass tournament. Since Becker's Wimbledon triumph 40 years ago, Engel is now the youngest player to storm the ATP quarterfinals on grass! His next battle, a wildcard-earned duel against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Zverev counters Becker

The grass court sensation in Stuttgart has revitalized Zverev's spirits for the Wimbledon, another major tournament commencing from June 30 to July 13. Becker recently criticized Zverev's performance and coaching setup during the French Open. He suggested a shift in Zverev's environment, including a coach change to jumpstart his Grand Slam efforts.

But Zverev struck back, responding to Becker's criticisms. "I reckon when things are rolling for me, I'm always doing everything right. And when they're not, suddenly everybody becomes illustrious. Unfortunately, Boris is part of that," Zverev stated upon arriving at Stuttgart. He even hinted that he doesn't always buy into Rittner's opinions.

Old beef, new dust?

While Zverev acknowledges the expertise of Becker, he has stood firm in his choices. Becker's lack of action, according to Zverev, remains surprising. Though a young gun in the tennis world, Alexander Zverev is brimming with resolve, planning to disrupt the top players despite the public flak!

  1. Despite the ongoing scrutiny from Boris Becker, Alexander Zverev, currently the world's number three tennis player, has been focusing on his game, especially in the sport of tennis, such as his recent victory at the Stuttgart quarterfinals.
  2. In contrast to the suggestions made by former coach Boris Becker, Alexander Zverev has been progressing in his career, reaching the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart tournament and stirring up excitement among tennis fans, regardless of the ongoing disagreements between them.
