Struff loses: False start for German Davis Cup team - Zverev holds Germany’s Davis Cup fate after Struff’s heartbreaking loss

Germany’s Davis Cup hopes now rest on Alexander Zverev after Jan-Lennard Struff suffered a narrow defeat in the quarterfinals. The loss to Argentina’s Tomás Martín Etcheverry leaves the team needing a win to stay in contention. Meanwhile, Italy and Belgium have already booked their places in the last four, with Spain also advancing after a tight victory.

Struff fought hard but fell short against Etcheverry in a tense match, losing 6–7 (3–7), 6–7 (7–9). The Argentine crowd roared throughout, pushing their player to victory. With 27 Davis Cup singles matches under his belt, Struff’s record now stands at 16 wins and 11 losses.

Germany’s path forward depends entirely on Zverev’s upcoming match. A victory would force a doubles decider, while a loss would end their tournament run. The semifinals now feature Italy, Belgium, Spain, and the winner of Germany’s tie against Argentina.
