Storm "Zoltan" in Bavaria: A Blizzard of Small Emergencies

Over the weekend and on Christmas Eve, Bavaria's emergency services were put to the test by the winter storm "Zoltan." Despite countless call-outs, major operations and damage were largely absent, the police headquarters confirmed on Sunday. The majority of their attention was directed towards dealing with fallen trees, loose roofing material, and downed power lines. The fire department, meanwhile, was primarily dispatched to flood-stricken areas in Franconia. A single person sustained minor injuries in a weather-related car accident.

Emergency Services on the Front Lines

Upper Bavaria witnessed the highest number of call-outs with 250, followed closely by Upper Franconia at 150. Nuremberg and Erlangen's emergency services also saw a surge with 70 calls, whereas Swabia and Lower Franconia experienced relatively few weather-related incidents, according to police figures.

The storm brought some unfortunate incidents, like a gust of wind near Altomünster (Dachau district) forcing a trailer into oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with an oncoming car. A 30-year-old incurred minor injuries in the accident, while a 43-year-old escaped unscathed.

A Widespread Impact

Lower Franconia was not spared from the storm's wrath either, leading to a few weather-related calls for the police. In the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria, the fire department was summoned to manage flood situations multiple times.

On a serene Sunday in Munich, local authorities reported a few minor traffic accidents. Despite the holiday mood, emergency services in Middle Franconia, like its neighbors, responded to weather-related incidents to ensure public safety.

Road Closures and Diversions

The blustery conditions forced the temporary closure of some roads in Upper Franconia, leading to diversions and inconvenient delays for drivers.

The Unyielding Vigilance of Bavarian Emergency Services

Throughout the storm, the operational force in Bavaria showed remarkable determination, working tirelessly to handle the emergency situations as effectively and efficiently as possible. Even in the Franken region in the south of Bavaria, both the police and fire departments remained diligent to ensure public safety.

Despite not having access to precise statistics on the number of weather-related emergency calls throughout Bavaria during "Zoltan," it's clear that the region's emergency services displayed unwavering resilience during the inclement conditions.
