Zimbabwe finds itself trailing New Zealand in their initial Test match
In the ongoing first Test between New Zealand and Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, New Zealand finished their first innings on a strong note, scoring 307 runs, despite the retirement of Nathan Smith due to an abdominal strain.
Devon Conway was the standout batsman for the Kiwis, scoring 88 runs, the highest for the team. Daryl Mitchell also contributed significantly with 80 runs. Henry Nicholls added 34 runs to the total.
Zimbabwe's response was less impressive, as they were bowled out for 149. Matt Henry was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers, taking 6 wickets for 39 runs. Blessing Muzarabani returned the best bowling figures for Zimbabwe, with 3-73 off 26 overs.
At the close of play on Day 2, Zimbabwe were struggling at 31 for 2 in their second innings, still trailing New Zealand by 127 runs. Nick Welch is yet to score but is at the crease for Zimbabwe, while Vincent Masekesa is at the crease for New Zealand but yet to score.
The pitch is proving to be a testing one for both teams. Zimbabwe will resume on Friday with Welch and Masekesa at the crease, aiming to narrow the gap.
