Railway Transfer: Zetterer Is Signed as Substitute for Trapp, Traveling from Bremen to Frankfurt - Zetterer steps in for Trapp as substitute, traveling from Bremen to Frankfurt

In a surprising turn of events, goalkeeper Michael Zetterer has transferred from SV Werder Bremen to Eintracht Frankfurt. The transfer fee for the move, which took place in August 2025, has not been disclosed by either club [1][2][3].

Zetterer began his career at SpVgg Unterhaching before joining Werder Bremen in 2015. During his time at the Bremerhaven-based club, he also had loan spells at PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands, where he made 32 appearances, and Austria Klagenfurt in Austria’s second division, where he played 14 matches [2].

Zetterer's move to Eintracht Frankfurt marks a replacement for Kevin Trapp, who is leaving the club to join Paris FC. The new signing has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, keeping him at Eintracht Frankfurt until 2029 [2][3].

However, Zetterer's path to the starting goalkeeper position may not be smooth sailing. He is currently recovering from a knee injury, while Kauã Santos is also in the squad. Markus Krösche, the sporting director of Eintracht Frankfurt, has expressed confidence in Zetterer's abilities, stating that he is a strong goalkeeper who can play at a high footballing level [4].

Meanwhile, Peter Niemeyer, the football director of Werder Bremen, has expressed full confidence in Mio Backhaus, who was beaten out for the starting goalkeeper position by Zetterer. The club is planning to rely on Backhaus as their number one goalkeeper [5].

As for Zetterer's last appearance, it was in the 0:1 defeat in the DFB-Pokal against Arminia Bielefeld [6]. It remains to be seen when he will make his debut for Eintracht Frankfurt, but it could be as early as this Saturday against Werder Bremen [7]. If he does play, it will mark a significant reunion, as the two clubs face off in the Bundesliga.
