Zelenskyy expresses concern that Poland might lack the capacity to protect people during a potential massive Russian assault.

In a recent interview published on the YouTube channel of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the country's aerial defense capabilities and compared them to those of Poland.

The Ukrainian President underscored that Ukraine's air defense systems, comprising mobile groups and multiple systems, have been effective in countering aerial threats. He went on to explain that Ukraine's air forces, including jets and drone interceptors, have successfully defended against 810 aerial assets, destroying over 700.

Zelenskyy compared these achievements to Poland's, stating that Ukraine destroyed more than 700 out of 810 aerial assets, while Poland was only able to destroy four out of 19 drones. He emphasized that Poland does not possess the necessary missiles or ballistics to defend against aerial attacks.

The President's statement implies that Poland may not be prepared to handle a large-scale aerial attack, given their limited success in defending against drones.

Zelenskyy referred to the aerial assets Ukraine has defended against as including kamikaze drones. He also mentioned that Ukraine can teach and train soldiers from other partner countries.

The discussion did not suggest a message to Poland, as they are not currently involved in the war. However, it does highlight a significant disparity in aerial defense capabilities between Ukraine and Poland.

Last week, around 20 Russian drones violated Polish airspace, entering from Ukraine and Belarus. The Ukrainian military has confirmed killing of Russians who shot two Ukrainian prisoners of war and have also confirmed that Russians shot down their own fighter jet over the Black Sea.

The countries that have helped Ukraine with military training to defend against incoming air attacks include the United States, Germany, Norway (with the Norwegian-American NASAMS system), France, and Italy (with the SAMP/T system). Ukraine also uses US Patriot and Hawk systems.
