Ukraine War Update +++ 22:11 Demilitarized Zone Proposal Dead: Zelensky Rejects Idea

Zelenskyy dismisses suggested demilitarized zone: "The idea is no longer viable"

The so-called demilitarized zone proposal, initially suggested by U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has taken a turn for the worse. During a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky categorically rejected the idea.

According to various media outlets, Kellogg had previously proposed a 30-kilometer demilitarized buffer zone, with both sides, Ukraine and Russia, pulling back 15 kilometers from the current frontline, to be monitored by international observers. However, Zelensky stated that the idea is "currently dead."

With his recent denial, Zelensky also contradicted Kellogg's statements, and it appears that Ukraine is not actively pursuing the demilitarized zone proposal as described. Meanwhile, Russia has not offered any agreement to any ceasefire proposals, and Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has claimed that Russia has not received any Ukrainian proposals for a demilitarized zone.

As the Ukraine conflict continues, it's clear that the proposed demilitarized zone remains stalled, and achieving peace in the region remains a challenge.

Interesting Fact:Did you know that the Ukraine conflict isn’t the only area where demilitarized zones play a significant role? The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea is one of the most marked examples, established in 1953 after the Korean War. The DMZ is one of the most heavily armed borders in the world, with numerous military installations, landmines, and watchtowers situated along the border.
