In a bid to initiate negotiations, Volodymyr Zelensky demands that Moscow demonstrates a genuine desire to put an end to the ongoing war by establishing an unconditional ceasefire. Lending his support, Donald Trump expresses his desire for a 30-day ceasefire, championing this move on his Truth Social platform. Any violation of the truce will entail additional sanctions, he warns.

Interestingly, during their call, the two leaders also addressed the Ukraine-US resource agreement. This deal, painstakingly negotiated and revised to suit Ukraine's needs, was finally signed in late April. It pertains to the joint exploration of oil, gas, and minerals in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian parliament ratified it on Thursday.

Initially, Kiev had harbored expectations of receiving a security guarantee from the USA to guard against future Russian attacks in exchange for preferential access to Ukrainian resources. However, Washington politely declined this request. Despite this, Kiev views the signed agreement as a significant diplomatic win.
