Taking a Stand in the Ukraine War

In the face of continuous attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyy urges the world to speak up against Russia's aggression. After a devastating rocket attack on Kryvy Rih, his hometown, Selenskyy addressed the public, calling out the silence as an enabler for Russia's rampage. "This attack is one of the darkest moments for Kryvy Rih," he said in a video message.

Initial reports indicate 18 deaths, including nine children, and 74 injuries. Selenskyy called out Western leaders for their lukewarm response, stating, "It is wrong and dangerous to remain silent about Russia killing children with ballistic missiles." He urged the world to take a clear stance "against Russian terror."

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces claimed victory over a significant electronic warfare system. The Tirada-2, developed by Russia's Ministry of Defense, has been destroyed. This mobile complex for suppressing electronic radio communications is thought to have been neutralized in April 2025, after being targeted by Ukrainian forces. The destruction of the Tirada-2 displays Ukraine's growing prowess in drone warfare and the vulnerability of Russian electronic warfare capabilities.

As the conflict persists, European allies are stepping up their support for Ukraine. Representatives from France and the UK visited Kyiv to discuss further military aid, such as additional support during the peace talks and long-term reforms for Ukraine's armed forces. Discussions also focused on potential European peacekeeping forces to maintain order in Ukraine should a ceasefire agreement be reached.

Tensions also remained high between NATO members and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has faced accusations of playing into the hands of Russian President Putin. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna advocated for sanctions against Hungary, proposing to strip Hungary of its voting rights in crucial EU decision-making processes, such as foreign and security policy, if these are threatened by Orbán's actions.

Officials from the West continued to pressure Putin for a quick response to the ceasefire agreement brandished by the US and Ukraine. The ball is very much in Russia's court, with France and the UK reporting slow progress from the Kremlin. Rumors also circulated that Donald Trump and Zelensky may attend the upcoming NATO summit in June.

While the odds may seem bleak, Selenskyy maintains hope. He emphasized, "Weakness has never ended a war." The people of Ukraine and its allies hold on to this sentiment, facing every challenge with resilience and determination.
