Zelensky expresses skepticism towards the honesty of Russia's truce guarantee.

In a surprising move, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a three-day truce for commemorations marking the end of World War II in Europe, aiming to test Kyiv's preparedness for a long-term ceasefire. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wasn't having any of it. During a press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel, Zelensky called out Putin's proposal, branding it as a theatrical performance designed to create an illusion of goodwill while allowing Russia to recharge its military efforts.

Zelensky emphasized that a 30-day ceasefire, as previously proposed by the U.S., is vital for meaningful negotiations, as shorter periods are insufficient to build trust or negotiate terms. He warned against the potential risks of Russia exploiting brief truces and blamed Putin for lacking sincerity and strategic intent to end the conflict.

In response to Zelensky's dismissal, the Kremlin has yet to modify its stance beyond the originally proposed three-day truce. The offer was labeled as a "humanitarian truce," but Ukraine has continued to reject broader ceasefire frameworks, arguing that they are contingent upon the halting of military aid to Ukraine.

Currently, there are no active negotiations about a long-term ceasefire, with Ukraine maintaining that Russia's proposals lack authenticity. As the war continues, Ukraine braces for more attacks, with Zelensky reporting that Russia conducted over 200 attacks on a single day.

Although discussions about a Ukrainian-Czech pilot training school for American F-16 jets were underway, the venture couldn't progress in Ukraine due to security concerns. Zelensky also scheduled a meeting with Czech defense companies to address these matters further.

The Czech Republic, a member of the EU and NATO, has provided significant humanitarian and military support to Ukraine since Russia's invasion in February 2022. The country has sheltered more than half a million war refugees and supplied the Ukrainian army with tanks, armored vehicles, and helicopters. The Czech Republic is also leading a European initiative to provide artillery ammunition to Ukraine, funded primarily by NATO allies.

In a statement issued later, Zelensky summarized his discussion with Pavel. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and the speakers of both parliament chambers planned to meet Zelensky in Prague on Monday. Despite Russia's insistence on short-term truces, Ukraine remains steadfast in its pursuit of a long-lasting ceasefire to end the ongoing conflict.
