Carl Zeiss Smashes Ten Billion Mark in Sales for the First Time

The electronics and optics powerhouse, Carl Zeiss, has broken the ten billion euro barrier in revenue. With a staggering 15% increase in the 2022/23 financial year, CEO Karl Lamprecht declared the milestone a significant achievement for any company, not just Zeiss. Earnings before interest and taxes rose by approximately 98 million euros to around 1.7 billion euros.

Credit for this growth goes to all four of Zeiss's business divisions. The production of semiconductor machines drove the most significant growth, but the industrial measurement technology, medical technology, and eyewear and binoculars sectors also enjoyed a boost. Zeiss's CEO, Lamprecht, attributed this success to the company's exposure to megatrends like digitalization, electromobility, and an aging population. The company anticipates this growth trend to continue, and plans to invest in research and development accordingly.

Zeiss's global workforce of around 43,000 employees will see the company invest around 3.5 billion euros in infrastructure over the next five years. The majority of these investments will originate from Germany, channeled towards expansion projects in Oberkochen and the new site in Aalen-Ebnat.

Insights from enrichment data: Carl Zeiss has not exclusively achieved a 15% increase in revenue in the 2022/23 financial year as suggested in the base article. While Zeiss Meditec AG had a revenue growth of 9.8% to 10.1% in the same period, reaching around 2.089 million euros, the entire Zeiss Group recorded a revenue of 10.9 billion euros in the 2023/24 financial year, marking an 8% increase from the previous year [1][2]. Zeiss Meditec AG has also earmarked significant investments in research and development, honing its focus on robotics, automation, and advanced technologies to maintain its leadership position in ophthalmology and expand into new markets [2][5].
