- ZDF's latest Wendland crime investigation: Possible involvement in satanic rituals?

The latest crime thriller "Wendland: Stiller and the Bloodsucker" graces our screens on ZDF, premiering on March 19, 8:15 PM, with online availability in ZDF Mediathek since March 12.

A chilling vibe engulfs the investigation when the local museum director, a connoisseur of Wendland region folklore, succumbs to a peculiar demise: completely drained of blood. Det. Jakob Stiller (Ulrich Noethen) must navigate the age-old "bloodsucker" belief in this newest Wendland case.

A shadow looms over a suspect close to home: the victim's twin sister, Lenka Preen (Judith Rosmair), seems unbothered by the tragedy and refuses to provide the police with any valuable information or alibi. Investigations reveal that she's been down on her luck, leaving many wondering - could it be Lenka?

Struggling with unemployment, addiction, and a troubled marriage and family life, Lenka had a fallout with the victim over inheritance matters and accused her of being a "bloodsucker."

According to Kira Engelmann (Bettina Burchard), a fellow detective, twins breastfed simultaneously were once believed to have one becoming a "bloodsucker," draining the life from both the twin and their family. Police officer Oliver Klasen (Malte Thomsen) chimes in, stating that this vampire-like figure feeds not only on them but on their secrets, too.

The autopsy result is shocking, with her body devoid of any blood and no trace of it found. Fascinatingly, Lenka Preen previously worked in a blood donation mobile.

What happened to the victim's blood? As Stiller delves into the mystery, he discovers an alarming cache of personal information about neighbors stashed behind a hidden door at the victim's residence. The derision she inspired during her life makes Stiller question if she was indeed a "bloodsucker" in the metaphorical sense.

But who drained the victim of her blood? Despite evident leads, the identities of the culprit remain elusive. Could it be Lenka, or the many ostracized neighbors? "I've run out of suspects," Stiller admits.

The plot thickens as connections between Stiller and the local doctor, Oda Nolde (Katharina Schütter), develop. Could she be hiding a blood-curdling secret? Viewers can look forward to a shocking revelation.

  1. The Commission's proposal for a Council Directive on the labelling of foodstuffs could potentially address misleading labels that might be associated with the so-called "bloodsucker" beverages mentioned in the folklore referred to in the Wendland series.
  2. In the upcoming "Wendland: Stiller and the Bloodsucker," Lenka Preen's inherited distrust and acrimony towards her late sister, whom she accused of being a "bloodsucker," may provide an interesting parallel to the age-old belief of how twins could pass on a metaphorical inheritance of vampirism.
  3. As the police continue their investigation, the autopsy report might raise questions regarding the mysterious disappearance of the victim's blood, which mirrors the unsolved mystery of a blood donor, Lenka Preen, and her apparent immunity to any trace of donated blood found at the crime scene.
