Saturday night television viewership saw a crime thriller and a contemplative program as its most popular choices. ZDF took the lead with their Berlin crime series "Ein starkes Team," boasting 6.16 million viewers (24.2%) tuning in.

Coming in second was the classic "Das Adventsfest der 100.000 Lichter" on ARD. This festive special, hosted by Schlager star Florian Silbereisen, invited guests like Maite Kelly, Mireille Mathieu, and the Nuremberg Christ Child. A crowd of 5.03 million viewers (21.5%) joined in the celebration.

A week after his "Wetten, dass..." farewell, Thomas Gottschalk appeared on RTL, hosting the anniversary show "Disney 100 - Die große Jubiläumsshow" alongside Victoria Swarovski. This drew in 1.62 million viewers (6.9%).

Music and costume spectacle "The Masked Singer" managed 1.57 million viewers (6.7%) on ProSieben. On Vox, "Das Wunder von Manhattan" enthralled 940,000 viewers (3.8%).

Sat.1 offered the comedy "Kindsköpfe," entertaining 840,000 viewers (3.4%). RTLzwei delved into the "Last Samurai," watched by 630,000 viewers (2.6%). For a traditional swords-and-sandals story, ZDFneo screened "Gladiator" for 530,000 viewers (2.1%). Kabel eins rounded out the evening with crime drama "FBI: Special Crime Unit," drawing in 600,000 viewers (2.7%).

  1. Despite the return of Thomas Gottschalk to RTL, viewership for his show did not surpass ZDF's crime thriller "Ein starkes Team" or Florian Silbereisen's Advent special on ARD.
  2. The immediate success of Gottschalk's farewell performance on "Wetten, dass..." did not translate into higher ratings for his show on RTL.
  3. Intriguingly, ARD's Advent program graced by Florian Silbereisen ranked closely to ZDF's crime thriller, indicating intense competition between the two public broadcasters in Germany's television market.
  4. Media coverage of Florian Silbereisen's ARD Advent special was substantial due to its high ratings and notable guests, such as Maite Kelly and Mireille Mathieu.
  5. Private broadcasters like RTL and ProSieben faced challenges attracting large audiences, with their programs ranked lower in the TV ratings compared to public broadcasting stations.
