Zach Cregger's Ideal DC Film Concept Draws Inspiration from a Remarkable 'Batman' Television Series Episode

Zach Cregger, known for his work in comedies like "Clerks" and "Harold & Kumar," is set to venture into the world of DC Comics with his new project, Henchman. This Gotham City-set film, still in the development phase, tells the story of a low-level henchman who, by sheer luck, manages to take down Batman and becomes a notorious figure in Gotham's criminal underworld.

The film, which remains without a confirmed release date, cast, or production schedule, is described as a unique take on the Batman universe, featuring brief appearances by Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn. However, no official casting or detailed roles for these characters have been announced.

Regarding the cast, no actors have been attached to Henchmen. Notably, James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are overseeing the DC Universe, have not cast Batman, Joker, or Harley Quinn for this project. Margot Robbie’s return as Harley Quinn is considered unlikely for Henchman at this stage.

The plot of Henchman shares a similar premise with the animated series episode "The Man Who Killed Batman," where a small-time gang member becomes a criminal star after apparently killing Batman. However, there is no known connection or mention of a direct link or influence between Zach Cregger’s Henchmen film and that episode.

Cregger has expressed interest in working with Gunn and Safran, and if Henchman is produced, it could be another Batman-adjacent movie, joining Clayface, Dynamic Duo, and Teen Titans. The future of the DC Universe on film and TV is uncertain, but if Henchman moves forward, it could be a significant addition to the DC Studios continuity.

In addition to Henchman, Cregger is also working on a new Resident Evil movie. Information about the future releases of Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek is available elsewhere.
