Here's Yuzi Chahal's Epic Night!

Yuzvendra Chahal sent the cricketing world abuzz with his sensational second IPL hat-trick on the 30th of April against the resilient Chennai Super Kings. Let's dive into the records he broke in this epic showdown.

Last evening, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer decided to field first, and the decision seemed to pay off when Chennai managed a total of just 190 runs. This was primarily thanks to a stunning 88 from none other than Sam Curran. In the penultimate over, when it seemed CSK might survive, Chahal had other plans.

Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad all fell to Chahal in quick succession, with the last five wickets collapsing in mere seven balls. Four of those wickets went to the las generation spinner, with the last three scalps arriving off the last three balls of the 19th over. Hooda was caught at point, Kamboj was bowled, and Ahmad found the long-on fielder.

This wasn't just any hat-trick. It was Yuzvendra Chahal's second IPL hat-trick, and he also became the first bowler to take four wickets in an over twice in the Indian Premier League. The last time Chahal achieved such a feat was earlier in the over, when he dismissed MS Dhoni. Amit Mishra (2013) and Andre Russell (2022) have managed one IPL four-wicket over each.

Apart from the hat-trick, Chahal had a hilariously unfortunate moment when he failed to achieve an all-Indian hat-trick. This feat has been accomplished only by Lakshmipathy Balaji (2008), Amit Mishra (twice, 2010 and 2013), and Andrew Tye (2018).

Chahal already held the record for the most four-wicket hauls in the IPL. With nine four-wicket hauls, he surpassed Sunil Narine’s record of eight. Narine still leads the way in terms of wickets by a spinner in the 19th over, but Chahal now sits comfortably in second place, with 10 to his name.

This was the first IPL hat-trick against the Chennai Super Kings. Go figure - the first IPL hat-trick was, ironically, taken by Lakshmipathy Balaji, playing for CSK against Punjab back in 2008. Only Chahal and Balaji have managedhat-tricks in Chennai.

Chahal becomes the third player to record multiple hat-tricks in the IPL. Amit Mishra (3) and Yuvraj Singh (2) are the others. With this hat-trick, Chahal elevated his status as the highest wicket-taker in IPL history, leaving the competition in his dust.

On Wednesday, Anshul Kamboj became one of Yuzvendra Chahal's victims during his sensational second IPL hat-trick, marking an interesting sports moment in the match between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings. This hat-trick not only made Chahal the first bowler to take four wickets in an over twice in the Indian Premier League but also broke the record for the most four-wicket hauls in the IPL, surpassing Sunil Narine’s record of eight. Interestingly, this was the first IPL hat-trick against the Chennai Super Kings, and only Chahal and Lakshmipathy Balaji, who took the first IPL hat-trick against Punjab in 2008, have managed hat-tricks in Chennai.
