Yusuf Demir's emotional return to Rapid Vienna after Galatasaray exit

Yusuf Demir has returned to Rapid Vienna after his contract with Galatasaray ended early. The 21-year-old winger signed a deal with the Austrian club until 2027. His arrival marks a homecoming, having first joined Rapid Vienna as a child over a decade ago.

Demir began his football journey at Rapid Vienna, signing with the club at just ten years old. He made history on December 14, 2019, when he became the youngest player ever to feature in a Bundesliga match for the team.

His career then took him abroad, first on loan to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2021. Later, in early September 2022, he moved to Galatasaray. After a season-long loan at FC Basel in 2023/24, his time in Turkey came to an early end, paving the way for his return.

The winger has spoken openly about his excitement at rejoining Rapid Vienna. He highlighted the potential of the squad and the opportunity to play alongside his brother, Furkan, who is also part of the first-team setup. Sporting director Markus Katzer echoed this sentiment, calling the transfer a positive step for both the player and the club.

Demir's return brings experience from top European leagues back to his boyhood club. His contract runs until 2027, giving him time to establish himself in the team. The move also reunites him with his brother, adding a personal dimension to his professional comeback.
