Kazakhstani-Canadian Tennis Duo Falters in French Open Doubles
In a setback during the 2025 French Open tennis tournament, the second-ranked female singles player from Kazakhstan, Yulia Putintseva, and her Canadian partner Leylah Fernandez, experienced defeat in the women's doubles second round.
The duo squared off against the combined forces of Slovakia's Tereza Mihalikova and Britain's Olivia Nicholls on May 30, 2025. The tightly contested match spanned three sets, with the scoreline concluding at 4-6, 6-0, 4-6 in favor of Mihalikova and Nicholls, the tournament's No. 12 seeds.
Over the course of one hour and 58 minutes on the clay court, the Kazakhstani-Canadian pair executed two aces but also committed four double faults. They managed to convert six out of nine break points during the match.
Putintseva had made a promising start at Roland Garros, securely advancing to the second round of the singles event with a victory over Chinese Taipei's Joanna Garland.
