Yukon First Nation secures $75K to keep school meals running

Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation (LSCFN) has received a $75,000 donation to support its school nutrition programs for the 2025-26 academic year. The funding, provided by Western Copper and Gold Corporation, will help ensure students continue to receive daily meals and snacks. This contribution comes as LSCFN faces ongoing challenges due to shifts in federal funding for its food initiatives.

Western Copper and Gold Corporation, the company behind the Casino Project in Yukon, announced the donation as part of its Casino Cares community investment program. The initiative focuses on youth, education, and well-being across the region. The $75,000 will cover food purchases, staffing, and program delivery at Tantalus Community School and LSCFN Daycare.

The $75,000 contribution will directly fund meal and snack programs for LSCFN’s schools and daycare. It will also ease financial pressures caused by fluctuating federal support. With this backing, LSCFN can continue prioritising children’s health and educational success in Carmacks.
