Saarlouis Youth Handball Team Shines at International Tournament

The D youth handball team of HG Saarlouis made a strong impression at the Kalon Breizh Cup 2025, an international youth handball tournament held in Pontivy, Brittany. The team, representing Saarlouis in France, demonstrated their skill, team spirit, and cultural understanding during the event.

Upon arrival, the team was greeted by the professional organization and warm atmosphere of the tournament, which attracts teams from beyond national borders. The Kalon Breizh Cup is a well-known event that emphasizes cultural exchange as part of a broader international sporting event.

The Saarlouis team finished with a strong 20th place in the overall ranking and a commendable second place in the international ranking, showcasing their potential and individual development. During games, the teams cheered each other on loudly, fostering a sense of community among the participants.

The tournament highlighted the international character of the event in a special way, with 84 participating teams, including 48 boys' teams and 36 girls' teams, presented at the ceremonial opening. The Saarlouis team met and formed a connection with the team from St. Nazaire, the partner city of Saarlouis. Evenings were spent with new friends, strengthening the team spirit and cultural understanding among the players.

Despite language barriers, the Saarlouis team made contact with other teams, including the German girls' team and two Bulgarian teams. Gestures, smiles, and team spirit helped the Saarlous team communicate effectively.

Mayor Carsten Quirin of Saarlouis officially sent off the young handball players as representatives of the sports city of Saarlouis and as ambassadors of German handball. The team's performance at the Kalon Breizh Cup 2025 was so impressive that a team and club exchange has been initiated between the Saarlouis team and another team for spring 2026.

The players also had the opportunity to visit the old town of Pontivy, including the castle of the Rohan family, adding a cultural dimension to their tournament experience. The team was accommodated in an old castle on an island, which served as a youth hostel, further enhancing the unique atmosphere of the tournament.
