20 Activists from the New Generation Disrupted at the Bundestag with Adhesive Action
Youth demonstrating adhesive protest tactics in Germany's federal parliament
Looks like the New Generation didn't get their democratic chat with parliamentarians at the Bundestag in Berlin, thanks to a swift police intervention. Around 20 protesters decided to stick to their guns... or glue, rather, by gluing themselves to the entrance of the parliament's underground garage at about 8:30 AM.
But the cops were one step ahead, handcuffs and all. Twelve of these activists were temporarily detained. A whopping 80 officers were present, ensuring the parliamentary operation ran smoothly without any disruptions.
Thirsty for peace and Democracy, the New Generation, successors to the climate-centric Letzte Generation, had announced a week of action demanding a non-violent, democratic revolution. This week started on May 27th, 2025, as per their website.
One of the high-profile actions was planned to be a presence during the parliamentary session in the government district and engaging in dialogue with Members of Parliament. Their protest was aimed at the current state of our democracy.
Despite countless protests, roadblocks, and glue-ups by similar groups, the situation remains a cause for concern for the authorities. Recently, the New Generation tried and failed to block entrances to a printing house in Berlin-Spandau.
Interestingly, Berlin will host the Berlin Freedom Week from November 8 to 15, 2025. This event focuses on freedom, democracy, and cultural exchange. Although it's not related to this particular event, it does signal a shared desire for change and solidarity among Berliners.
In past times, Letzte Generation caused quite a stir with numerous street blockades and gluing themselves to streets, demanding stronger government action on climate change. One can only wonder if the New Generation will continue to follow in their footsteps and make a bigger impact on the political landscape.
