Last-Minute Heroics: DFB Youth Advances to U19 EM Semifinals

Youngsters from the DFB advance spectacularly into the semifinals with an impressive performance in the final round.

Prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions! The DFB U19 team snatched an exhilarating 2:1 win against Norway in injury time, securing their spot in the semifinals of the U19 European Championships in Romania.

The nail-biting final Group B match had Norway taking an early lead through Sondre Granaas, but the German juniors managed to turn the tide with a stunning last-minute show. Assan Ouedraogo, a Leipzig talent, pulled one back in the 85th minute, before Said El Mala, a Cologne player, sealed the deal in extra time with a game-winning goal.

The triumphant victory came after a dramatic bend-but-not-break performance, with the DFB team rebounding from a near-impossible 5:5 draw with England in their previous game.

Initially needing their first win of the tournament and assistance from the already qualified Dutch against England, the DFB team faced a challenging scenario. The Dutch obliged, winning 4:2 after leading 3:0 at halftime, ensuring Germany's progression to the next round.

Competing with Norway for a semi-final berth, the game became increasingly intense after Granaas' goal (76'). The end-to-end action saw Ouedraogo equalizing with a miraculous strike (85') and El Mala adding the nail on the coffin moments later.

Boasting an open, hard-fought battle, Germany triumphantly overcame the odds to qualify for the semi-finals, set to square off against Spain on Monday at 17:00 CEST (Sky). The grand finale will take place on June 26.

In case you missed it: the DFB U19 team managed to advance in spite of a challenging group stage that included a heavy loss against the Netherlands and an incredible 5:5 comeback against England.[1][2][3][4][5]
