Young, unproven 21-year-old fast bowler earns national selection for India's upcoming tri-series

The young gun Kranti Goud is all set to make her international debut, as the injury-stricken Kashvee Gautam bids adieu to the ongoing women's tri-series. The 22-year-old Gautam, who had a humble start in the series with wicketless performances and just 22 runs to her name, has unfortunately found herself on the sidelines due to injury.

Known for her right-arm pace bowling and occasional batting, Gautam had shown her mettle in this year's Women's Premier League (WPL) when she played for the Gujarat Giants. Her WPL statistics include 11 wickets, an average of 18.18, an economy rate of 6.45, and a strike rate of 16.9.

WPL Star, Kranti Goud Steps Up

With Kashvee Gautam out of the picture, the door has swung open for the dynamic Kranti Goud. A right-arm seamer yet to test her skills on the international stage, Goud has already left an impression in domestic cricket and the WPL. Her stint with the UP Warriorz in the WPL culminated in six wickets across as many games, with her best performance being a 4-25 in a match that included scalping Meg Lanning, Shafali Varma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Jess Jonassen.

Goud's journey to the international stage started with her consistent performances in the Senior Women's ODI Trophy, where her 15 wickets, including a four-for in the final against Bengal, helped Madhya Pradesh claim their first title.

India Stays Atop, Faces South Africa

As India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, continue to rule the tri-series with two wins under their belt, they face South Africa on Wednesday, May 7. With no wins yet in the competition, South Africa find themselves in a must-win situation to keep their campaign alive. The final clash will take place on May 11.

India, after locking in two convincing victories over Sri Lanka and South Africa, faced their first roadblock in their winning streak when Sri Lanka snatched a three-wicket victory. This marked Sri Lanka's first win against India in the format since 2018.
