Coco Gauff, the 21-year-old tennis sensation, must have been grinning ear to ear after former U.S. President Barack Obama's heartfelt message on X: "'Bravo, @CocoGauff! The first American singles champion at the French Open in a decade, congrats! You make us all proud.' After her awe-inspiring French Open victory against Aryna Sabalenka," he shared, securing her second Grand Slam title after her triumph at the 2023 US Open.

The Title with a Purpose

While basking in her hard-fought victory, Gauff didn't let her success overshadow the broader picture. Speaking of the current U.S. political climate, the world number 2 acknowledged, "I'm thrilled to represent those who look like me and may not feel as supported right now. It feels good to bring a little hope and light to them."

Reflecting on Donald Trump's presidential term, Gauff admitted that his election left her feeling somewhat dejected. Yet, her mother's words of encouragement during the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia, "Just win the tournament, and give people something to smile about," stayed with her throughout her journey.

Representing the Red, White, and You

Although her views may invite criticism, Gauff clarified, "I'm a proud American—a fierce advocate for those who share my background and support the things I care about." As a burgeoning icon, Gauff has openly addressed not only tennis matters but also political and social issues, setting a powerful example for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Reflecting and Shining

At 21, Gauff showcases a mature outlook on life beyond tennis, reflecting on her transformation and the challenges she's faced. It's her innate ability to uplift others combined with her unrelenting spirit that truly sets her apart. Three years ago, Gauff felt the heartache of losing to Polish player Iga Swiatek in the Paris final, but her tears of joy this time flooded the courts as she secured her own place among the tennis greats.

"I want to thank God for guiding me through those tough periods," she expressed, holding back tears as she received the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen from former French Open champion Justine Henin. "I'm just so happy to be here."
