Young tennis prodigies going head-to-head in HCM City to claim national championships
The National Top Young Tennis Players Championship - Vietravel Cup 2025 commenced in Ho Chi Minh City on August 9, attracting over 200 athletes from 12 delegations. This annual tournament, an official event of the Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF), is being jointly held by the HCM City's Culture and Sports Department and diamond sponsor Vietravel.
The tournament serves as the fifth event for junior players before they return to school. The finals will take place on August 16 at the Sports Centre for Community’s tennis court in Ho Chi Minh City.
The competition features 22 medal categories across various age groups from U8 to U18 in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles competitions. Medals are awarded in these categories for both boys and girls.
Some title favourites to watch out for include Nguyễn Văn Tường Hải of the Military in the boys' U10 category, Lê Phú Gia of Ho Chi Minh City in the boys' U14, Trần Đức Minh of Ho Chi Minh City in the boys' U16, and Ngô Hồng Hạnh of the Military in the girls' U18.
Ngô Hòng Hạnh's determination and eagerness have marked her as one of the favourites in the girls' U18 category. All participating athletes have achieved remarkable results in local and international competitions, promising a competitive and high-quality tournament.
VTF and its partners have presented VNĐ160 million (US$6,100) to the national team who successfully kept their position in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group III event last month in Bắc Ninh. Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, vice president and general secretary of the VTF, believes that the victories from the tournament will boost the athletes' confidence, bravery, aspiration, and noble sportsmanship.
This tournament is not just a platform for young tennis players to showcase their skills, but also an occasion for tennis lovers and fans to show their support for the sport and its development in the wider community.
