In an extraordinary endeavor to combat drug abuse and betting apps, a 20-year-old climber from the heart of Telangana, Bhukya Yashwanth, boldly ascended Mount Iso, Manipur's highest peak, in a recent expedition.
Yashwanth, a B Com student with a knack for climbing the world's most challenging peaks, shared his journey with PTI. In the last ten days, he scaled Betlingchhip (Thaidawr) in Tripura, Mount Gorichen in Arunachal Pradesh, and now Mount Iso, aiming to spread a social message against these vices by uniting them with his love for mountaineering.
Speaking about his motivations, Yashwanth stated, "I'm alarmed by the widespread addiction to betting apps and harmful drug usage in our country. I want to use climbing mountains, a positive pursuit I've been passionate about since I was 16, as a platform to share a powerful message against these destructive habits."
The presence of Assam Rifles officers alongside Yashwanth during the climb added unique camaraderie to the memorable experience. "The two Assam Rifles officials' support and spirit made this expedition even more inspiring," Yashwanth affirmed.
In an attempt to emphasize his commitment, Yashwanth declared his intention to hoist the national tricolor in the highest peak of every state in India, under the campaign titled 'Har Shikar Par Tiranga'.
Recounting Mount Iso's challenging climb, Yashwanth said, "The steep terrain, coupled with the freezing weather conditions, made the ascent difficult, but my body adapted as I climbed and the journey became manageable."
After declaring his Mizoram expedition for Tuesday, Yashwanth plans to conquer the highest peaks in all the northeastern states in the coming days, standing firm in his mission to inspire a nationwide movement against drug abuse and betting apps.
Yashwanth, a seasoned mountaineer with several international summits under his belt, including Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, has also taken to charitable work, acting as a brand ambassador for the NHFC Foundation India.
As Yashwanth bravely climbs each peak, he serves as a beacon of inspiration for the millions of youth across India, encouraging them to reject shortcuts and distractions in favor of health, purpose, and integrity.
