Young Green movement on track to acquire party leadership

Green Youth Takes Confrontational Stance Against Party Leadership's Economy Policies

The Green Youth (Grüne Jugend) has taken a confrontational stance against the party leadership's commitment to economic growth, as shown in draft changes to the party's basic program. The youth wing is advocating for a shift in focus, prioritising human needs and natural resources over profits, and emphasising the importance of education for social equity and innovation.

In their new basic program, the Green Youth calls for education to be considered a fundamental right, separate from economic exploitation. They have expressed concerns that the current economic logic is not capable of solving the crises of our time, as stated by Green Youth Co-Chair Georg Kurz.

Kurz believes that with the current economy logic, the party will not address the rising inequality due to the Corona pandemic nor the destruction of livelihoods. He has also rejected a passage in the draft program that states "Economic growth is not the problem per se, but the consumption of natural resources that comes with it."

The Green Youth has demanded the deletion of several passages from the basic program that emphasise the value of education for Germany's economy future. Instead, they propose "Education is a fundamental right and must be separated from economic exploitation."

The Greens will come together for a three-day party conference starting on Friday, which will take place entirely online. The current guidelines of the Greens date back to the year 2002. Apart from the economy policies, there is also conflict between the party youth and the party leadership in the area of internal security.

The Green Youth is taking a confrontational stance against the economy policies of Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck's party leadership. They advocate for an economy that prioritises human needs and natural resources over profits, and they oppose the passage in the draft program that states "Economic growth is not the problem per se, but the consumption of natural resources that comes with it."

The Green Youth's alternative proposal is to prioritise education as a fundamental right, separate from economic exploitation. They believe that this approach will support social equity and innovation, and provide a sustainable foundation for Germany's economy future.
