This upcoming Pentecost weekend, Refrath is set to host one of Europe's biggest U17 badminton tournaments. Over 200 young athletes from more than ten countries will battle it out in the German U17 Open. Five juniors from TV Refrath will join the fray, with entrance being free all days long.
A statement from TV Refrath follows.
The German U17 Open has become an anticipation-filled staple on the competition schedules of various European countries. This year, the tournament will take place during the Pentecost weekend. From Friday afternoon to Monday, around 200 young girls and boys from all over Europe will make their way to Refrath.
Representatives from powerhouse countries Denmark and France are set to attend, as well as neighboring nations Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Croatia, Sweden, Estonia, Romania, and Ukraine.
The tournament kicks off on Friday at 2 PM, and at 9 AM on the subsequent three days. The semifinals and finals take place on Monday.
Last year, Fynn Ohliger came in second place in doubles, and Kalliope Hermel even won the mixed tournament. This year's Refrath participants may not experience such triumphs—but you never know!
From TV Refrath, the ladies Pia Rappen, Nele Röhrig, and Kailynn Huang, and the gentlemen Nils Barion and Leo Lier will compete. The Steinbreche hall will welcome visitors free of charge on all four tournament days.

Unfortunately, there seem to be some inconsistencies with the 2025 schedule. Although some sources indicate that the tournament took place in early June, the official competition calendar lists the dates as either June 4–7, 2026 or June 6–9, 2025. Moreover, no German U17 Open event is currently scheduled for Pentecost weekend in 2025. It's possible that the tournament may have moved to a different date or location over the years.
