Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, declares financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees for the families of the 11 pilgrims who perished in a tragedy at Gonda Canal. An investigation has been initiated, and related footage is available.
In a heartbreaking incident, an accident in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district claimed the lives of 11 people and left four others injured. The incident occurred on a road in Gonda district, when a Bolero vehicle carrying 15 people heading to the Prithvinath Temple veered off near the Sarayu canal bridge and plunged into the Saryu canal[1][2][3].
According to police reports, the driver was reportedly speeding and fled the scene after the vehicle lost control[2]. Rescue operations involving cranes and divers were carried out to retrieve the vehicle and the victims[1][3]. The strong current and depth of the canal contributed to the tragedy, leaving those inside with little chance to react[3].
The accident took the lives of 9 members of a single family from Sihagaon village in Gonda[4]. SP Vineet Jaiswal confirmed the fatalities and stated that four individuals were rescued with minor injuries[5].
Gonda MP Kirti Vardhan Singh offered his condolences for the loss of lives and prayed for the departed souls[6]. In a post, the Chief Minister expressed his deep sorrow over the accident and wrote condolences to the families of the deceased[7]. He also announced ex gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased[8].
The Chief Minister also instructed the district administration to immediately take the injured to the hospital for their proper treatment[9]. The injured individuals have been admitted to the District Hospital for medical care[10].
The authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident[11]. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims during this difficult time.
