Yesh Atid's representative, Idan Roll, has resigned from the Knesset.

In early August 2025, MK Idan Roll, a former member of the Yesh Atid party and once Deputy Foreign Minister, announced his resignation from the Knesset and his complete retirement from political life. He chose to step down at the start of the summer recess, expressing a sense of responsibility for his decision [1][2][3].

Over six years in the Knesset, Roll faced numerous political challenges, including five consecutive elections, a global pandemic, and the aftermath of the October 7th attacks. As a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and Deputy Foreign Minister, he focused on strengthening Israeli advocacy worldwide, deepening diplomatic and technological ties, particularly through the Abraham Accords, and promoting LGBTQ+ rights alongside a strong security stance [1].

Politically, Roll parted ways with the Yesh Atid party and operated as an independent one-man faction since January 2025 before his resignation [2][3]. Despite stepping down, he expressed hope for a future broad Zionist coalition that would bridge political divides in Israel [1].

In his farewell remarks, Roll emphasized the importance of the return of hostages from Hamas captivity, which he believes to be a supreme value [1]. He will focus on leaving a legacy of commitment to Israel, including advocacy for the return of hostages, during his retirement.

Throughout his political career, Roll combined liberalism with a firm stance on Israel's security. He was known for expressing a commitment to voicing unpopular positions for the sake of strengthening Israel and the Jewish people [1]. Roll also worked diligently to build diplomatic ties with international leaders, further solidifying Israel's position on the global stage.

With Roll's departure, the Knesset and Israeli politics will undoubtedly feel the loss of a dedicated and passionate politician who made significant strides in diplomacy and advocacy during his tenure. His legacy, however, will continue to inspire future leaders to stand firm in their convictions and work tirelessly for the betterment of Israel and its people.
