Yekaterinburg Zoo Chooses Its Main Snow Maiden
Yekaterinburg Zoo has launched a contest to crown its most enchanting New Year’s beauty. Seven animals are competing for the title, with public voting now open. The winner will be announced and celebrated before the year ends.
The contestants include Albina, a red-gray wallaby, and Olkha, an Indian crested porcupine. Buklya, a snowy owl, joins Khatanga, a polar bear, in the competition. Ambi, an axolotl, Flora, a royal python, and Omega, an Arctic fox, complete the lineup.
Voting runs until December 28 in the zoo’s official VK group. Supporters can cast their votes to decide which animal takes the crown. Meanwhile, in Hesse, turtles and tortoises remain the most reported protected species. Over 112,000 specimens have been registered there. Gray parrots, Amazon parrots, broad-margined tortoises, and fire salamanders also rank among the region’s frequently documented creatures.
The winning animal will be honoured at the contest’s conclusion. Public participation will determine Yekaterinburg Zoo’s New Year’s beauty. The zoo expects strong engagement before the December 28 deadline.
