Yekaterinburg ranks second in Russia's public transport quality assessment
Yekaterinburg has secured second place in a national ranking of public transport quality, scoring 76 points out of 100. The city trailed the winner, Perm, by just 4.9 points. Officials now plan further improvements, including new trams and buses by 2026.
The ranking, conducted by Sietra, evaluated 100 Russian cities on transport quality. Perm took the top spot, excelling in accessibility and passenger comfort. Moscow and St. Petersburg were analysed for comparison but did not receive official rankings.
Yekaterinburg performed strongly in functionality, sustainability, and safety. It also outperformed St. Petersburg in affordability and safety. The city's recent upgrades include 55 new trolleybuses, set to enter service soon. Looking ahead, Yekaterinburg has announced tenders for 15 articulated buses. By 2026, the city aims to add 50 trams and 15 more buses to its fleet.
The ranking highlights Yekaterinburg's progress in public transport, with high marks in key areas. New vehicles and planned purchases suggest further growth in the coming years. The city remains focused on expanding and improving its network.
