Year commences with home loss for ART Giants in Dusseldorf
In a closely contested game, the ART Giants Düsseldorf fell short against Phoenix Hagen on Friday evening, losing 88-76.
The first half of the game was dominated by Hagen, who held a 20-point lead over the Giants at halftime. The scoreboard showed a 23:39 lead for Hagen in the 13th minute of the second quarter. Despite a glimmer of fighting spirit, the Giants could only slightly close the gap in the third quarter, keeping the deficit at 20 points by the end.
The game was characterized by the Giants trailing for a long time, despite a comeback attempt in the final quarter. However, an unsuccessful comeback attempt left the Giants with a 88-76 defeat.
The Giants started nervously and appeared disjointed in their offense, while Hagen appeared focused and concentrated. In the 34th minute, the Giants went on a 10:4 run, improving the score to 66:79. But Hagen continuously extended their lead, growing to 27 points in this phase.
The Giants' defense struggled to hold up, and their rebounding was poor, with a rebound ratio of 2:9 in Hagen's favor after the seventh minute. Hagen took advantage of the Giants' weaknesses and kept scoring easy points. The Giants had a poor shooting percentage throughout the game, with a low of 33% in the 33rd minute.
Despite the disappointing result, individual performances stood out. Hart scored 14 points, Averette scored 11, Tucker scored 1, Teichmann scored 10, Fleute scored 1, Richardson scored 4, Giese scored 7, Okpara scored 2, Henry scored 10, Marshall scored 6, Edwards scored for the first time, and Spearman scored 10.
Coach Zazai was not satisfied with his team's performance, emphasizing the need to be focused from the start and dictate their own game. "We need to improve our performance from the start and take control of the game," Zazai said after the match. "We need to work on our shooting percentage and focus on our defense to prevent easy points for our opponents."
Despite the loss, the ART Giants Düsseldorf will look to bounce back in their next game, determined to improve their performance and secure a victory.
