The image shows a man sitting on a chair playing a guitar in front of a black curtain. He is wearing a white shirt and has a serious expression on his face as he plays. His fingers are positioned on the strings of the guitar, and his eyes are closed in concentration as he concentrates on the music he is creating.

Musician Asks for Forgiveness - Ye Opens Up About Bipolar Disorder and the Crash That Changed His Life

Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has spoken openly about his struggles with mental health and past controversial actions. In a recent interview, he revealed how a severe car crash in 2002 may have contributed to his bipolar disorder, which was diagnosed years later. He also addressed his 2025 manic episode, calling it a period that 'destroyed' his life.

Ye was diagnosed with bipolar I disorder in 2016, followed by a frontal lobe injury diagnosis in 2023. He believes the 2002 car crash, which caused brain trauma, played a role in his condition. During a four-month manic state in early 2025, he described his behaviour as 'psychotic, paranoid, and impulsive,' though no sources confirm he sought help at the time.

His wife, Bianca Censori, eventually urged him to get treatment when he hit rock bottom. Ye admitted to making antisemitic remarks and selling swastika-printed T-shirts—actions he now regrets. He has since published a full-page apology in The Wall Street Journal, stating he is not a Nazi or antisemite and expressing love for Jewish people. Reflecting on his disorder, Ye explained how bipolar episodes can lead to denial and a loss of touch with reality. Now seeking professional help, he plans to redirect his energy into creative work, including art and design.

Ye’s public apology and decision to pursue treatment mark a shift from his past behaviour. He has acknowledged the harm caused by his actions and is focusing on recovery. His next steps include artistic projects, signalling a move away from controversy toward positive expression.
