Yankees' Mark Teixeira records a sacrifice fly in a rehab outing, demonstrating flawless field skills.
Mark Teixeira Makes Return to the Field for Yankees
After a lengthy stint on the disabled list, former All-Star first baseman Mark Teixeira made his long-awaited return to the field for the New York Yankees on Saturday. Teixeira, who has been sidelined since June due to a cartilage tear in his right knee, started at third base and wore his number 25 jersey.
In his first at-bat, Teixeira grounded out to first base, but he showed no signs of discomfort as he fielded a sharp grounder and beat the runner to the bag in the first inning. In the fourth inning, Teixeira smashed a line drive, sacrifice fly to left field, which brought home a run.
Teixeira acknowledged the two-run homer and laser solo shot by Aaron Judge in the game, expressing his excitement about the young player's potential and his long career in the Bronx. Despite going 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his first three at-bats, Teixeira remained focused on seeing pitches and taking good swings.
During the game, Teixeira also started a double play on a grounder and a flip to second. He left the game after six innings without any errors in the field. In total, Teixeira appeared in 48 games this season before his injury and was hitting .180 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 167 at-bats.
Teixeira has been working hard to get back into shape, emphasizing the importance of his health in his return to the field. He spoke about making adjustments and feeling good while taking ground balls. To manage his injury, Teixeira explained that warming up and icing his knee were the only treatments available.
Before making his return to the Yankees, Teixeira began a three-game rehab assignment with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Teixeira discussed the frustration of his injury and the relief of getting back on the field, expressing his satisfaction with his last at-bat, stating he had a good swing.
Despite the challenges he faced during his injury, Teixeira remains optimistic about his future with the Yankees. He expressed his excitement about Judge's potential and his long career in the Bronx, and he looks forward to contributing to the team's success in the second half of the season.
