Despite the impressive offensive showing, the Yankees fell one home run short of tying the MLB's all-time record of 10 in a game, set by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1987. The game was delayed for almost two hours due to rain and lightning.
The Yankees' victory comes after a challenging time scoring runs against the Tampa Bay Rays, who they lost to earlier in the season. The Rays are now 61-65 on the season and fourth in the AL East.
The second game of the series between the Yankees and Rays will be played on Wednesday night in Tampa. The Rays will be looking to bounce back and prevent the Yankees from extending their winning streak.
