Yakutsk's Gas Shortage: Determining the Timeline and Entities for Gas Monopoly Establishment

In the heart of Siberia, Yakutsk is experiencing a potential gas crisis, and the regional oil and gas company, Sakhatransneftegaz, seems to be at the centre of it all.

The Crisis Unfolds

The situation in Yakutsk appears to stem from operational disruptions, such as halted gas supplies, infrastructure failures, or contractual disputes affecting gas delivery. The extreme cold in the region makes reliable gas supply critical for heating and power, and any disruption could have severe consequences.

Legal and Financial Implications

If the crisis is indeed due to Sakhatransneftegaz's actions, residents and managing companies may face significant challenges. Residents could incur higher costs for alternative heating sources or suffer damages due to lack of heating. They might have legal grounds to seek compensation if the company violates supply contracts or regulatory obligations.

Managing companies, including housing and utility providers, could face additional expenses to source gas elsewhere or maintain essential services. They might also face penalties from regulators for failing to ensure reliable supply or for contractual breaches.

The Legal Battle

Prometei, the company that our building belongs to, is currently embroiled in a legal battle with Sakhatransneftegaz in the Arbitration Court to work out mutually acceptable contract conditions. Similarly, Sakhatransneftegaz cannot cut off gas to a single apartment due to a lack of contract, and they must work with it, possibly through legal means.

Other managing companies have appealed to the prosecutor's office regarding their issues with Sakhatransneftegaz. Prometheus, another company, is also in the process of settling a court case against Sakhatransneftegaz.

The Impact on Residents

Many residents, including families with children, the elderly, and the sick, are currently unable to use gas and are forced to rely on gas burners and electric stoves. The federal legislature has introduced law amendments to ensure the safety of gas equipment use, but in many regions, the technical maintenance fee has reportedly doubled or quadrupled.

The Potential Cut-offs

Gas providers in Yakutsk plan to cut off gas from buildings without technical diagnosis, totaling 516 buildings in Yakutsk. Sakhatransneftegaz reportedly has a list of 338 multi-apartment buildings in Yakutsk for potential gas cut-offs due to the lack of contracts for in-apartment and in-house maintenance, but they do not have the right to do this.

Despite a letter from one managing company stating they're conducting technical diagnosis at certain addresses, they're still cut off from gas.

As the situation unfolds, it's crucial to monitor official sources and local news for updates on this developing story. The wellbeing and safety of residents and managing companies remain a priority, and finding a resolution to this crisis is of utmost importance.
