Yakutsk's bold plan relocates hundreds from unsafe housing by 2026

Yakutsk has made progress in relocating residents from unsafe housing. In 2025 alone, over 5,000 square metres of uninhabitable buildings were cleared. The effort is part of a wider push to improve living conditions in the city.

The RIA Joint-Stock Company has played a key role in the project. By the end of 2026, it plans to finish 12 new residential buildings in the Sportivny microdistrict. So far, infrastructure work has included gas, electricity, and water connections for multiple blocks, along with road construction and landscaping.

Since 2022, RIA has helped 711 people from 312 apartments move into new homes or receive financial compensation. This has cleared nearly 11,000 square metres of unsafe housing. In 2025, over 400 residents were relocated, with some given new flats and others compensated.

In the Zvezdny microdistrict, 321 individuals from 113 families moved into fresh accommodation. Another 82 residents from 58 families chose cash payments instead. Over three years, 550 people (214 families) secured new apartments, while 161 (98 families) took financial support.

Liya Shainurova, RIA's CEO, credited the success to teamwork between developers, utility firms, and the local government. The company is now expanding its work, with 17 buildings under construction in Block 2B of the Sportivny microdistrict. Plans for 2026 include further scaling up operations to meet growing demand.

Infrastructure upgrades have already begun. Gas pipelines were installed in eight buildings, while ten received electricity and water connections. Internal roads and landscaping for the first phase were completed between 2024 and 2025, setting the stage for future development.

The project has already moved hundreds of residents out of unsafe housing. With new buildings underway and infrastructure in place, more families will soon have access to better living conditions. The next phase will focus on completing the Sportivny microdistrict by the end of 2026.
