Yakutsk Airport (YKS) Hit by Flight Delays and Cancellations in Extreme Cold

Yakutsk Airport (YKS), also known as Sakha (Yakutsk) Airport, experienced significant flight delays and cancellations on 18 January due to adverse weather conditions. The airport, a major hub in Siberia, Russia, saw over eight flights affected.

Despite the challenging weather, some flights managed to arrive on time. AK 'Yakutia' flight 276 from Moscow landed as scheduled. However, numerous other flights were delayed, including several AK 'Yakutia' services from Sochi to Moscow to Yakutsk, Yakutsk to Deputatsky, and Yakutsk to Middle Kolyma. AK 'Polar Airlines' flights from Yakutsk to various destinations were also delayed. Notably, an AK 'Aeroflot' flight from Moscow to Yakutsk was held up at the departure airport.

Passengers were advised to monitor the online board on the Yakutsk Airport website for updates. The air temperature at the airport on that day was an icy -44 degrees Celsius, with fog and meteorological visibility of just 150 meters.

While the exact reasons for each delay may vary, adverse weather conditions were the primary cause. Passengers planning to fly to or from Yakutsk should check the latest flight information and prepare for potential disruptions, especially during harsh weather conditions.
