Yakutia’s ‘Safe Ice’ campaign intensifies to prevent winter waterway tragedies

Yakutia has launched the second phase of its 'Safe Ice' campaign to reduce accidents on frozen water bodies. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), follows an initial awareness drive held from November 24 to 30. Authorities are now stepping up patrols and public education to prevent emergencies during winter ice formation.

The campaign brings together rescuers, traffic inspectors, administrative officials, and local organisations. Teams are conducting regular patrols, surprise inspections, and educational workshops to enforce ice safety rules. Residents are reminded to avoid unauthorised travel onto frozen lakes and rivers, with clear warnings to use only designated ice crossings marked by official signage.

The 'Safe Ice' campaign aims to cut down on winter accidents through stricter enforcement and public awareness. With patrols, fines, and clear safety guidelines in place, officials hope to ensure safer conditions on Yakutia’s frozen waterways. Residents are encouraged to follow all precautions and report any dangerous situations without delay.
