Yakutia’s 45-billion-ruble push transforms communities through corporate responsibility
Resource companies in Yakutia have poured over 45 billion rubles into social and environmental projects in the last seven years. The region now tracks corporate responsibility through an official ranking, with more than 30 firms assessed in 2023 alone. These efforts span education, sports, reforestation, and support for indigenous communities across the republic.
The Yakutian government has formalised cooperation with businesses through socioeconomic agreements. Over 40 deals now exist with companies, while nearly 100 more involve local authorities. These partnerships help fund infrastructure and community initiatives.
ALROSA, the world’s largest diamond miner based in Mirny, has been active in the region since 2023. Its projects cover environmental protection, job creation, and support for indigenous northern peoples. Other key contributors include Polus Aldan, YATEK, and Prognoz. Recent investments have delivered tangible results. Irkutsk Oil Company financed a new sports and fitness complex in Nyurba. Elgaugol helped launch the Future Point educational centre in Zatay. Meanwhile, Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha built the Taas-Yuryakh Cultural Center in the village of the same name. Corporate-backed reforestation efforts have also made Yakutia a national leader in tree planting. Three new tree nurseries have opened with company support, boosting the region’s green recovery.
The combined investments have transformed local infrastructure and services. From education centres to sports facilities and reforestation, the projects address both social and environmental needs. With ongoing agreements in place, the region’s partnership model continues to expand.
