Yakutian Wrestler Lev Pavlov Shines at Under-24 Russian Youth Championship

Lev Pavlov, a promising young wrestler from Yakutia, has made a strong impression at the ongoing Under-24 Russian Youth Championship in Ulan-Ude. The tournament, which is currently contesting the first five sets of medals, has seen Pavlov emerge as a formidable competitor in the Under 57 kg weight category.

Pavlov's journey to the semi-finals was marked by impressive victories. He defeated Buryat Jargal Baayanduyev (3:0), Dagestani Magomed Saypudinov (6:2), and Tuva's Chadamboy Dongak (9:0) to secure his place in the final four.

However, a controversial decision in the semi-finals saw Pavlov lose to Ayanaday Ondar from Tuva (2:3), denying him a place in the final. Despite this setback, Pavlov demonstrated his resilience by securing a spot in the small final for the bronze medal, where he will face Usman Inderbaev, the 19-year-old champion of Chechnya.

Pavlov's rival, Inderbaev, has also been making waves in the tournament, eliminating two Yakutians from the competition before reaching the small final.

Meanwhile, another Yakutian wrestler, Roman Nikolaev, reached the quarter-finals in the 79 kg weight class but was defeated by the Russian Student Champion from North Ossetia, Magomed Kardanov (1:9). Kardanov's victory advanced him to the final, meaning Nikolaev will compete in the consolation group tomorrow.

Ayanaday Ondar, a master of sports from Tuva, currently holds the top spot in the Under 57 kg weight category, having secured the first place. The second place is shared by Magomed Magomedov and Yunus Yavbatirov from Dagestan. The fifth places are held by Usman Inderbaev and Musa Alibulatov, also from Dagestan, and Julian Grigoryev who qualified for the "consolation round" in the Under 61 kg weight category.

Lev Pavlov's participation in the Under-24 Russian Youth Championship is not his first foray into national competition. Two years ago, he took second place at the Russian Youth Championship in Naro-Fominsk. His consistent performances and determination make him a two-time medalist of the Russian Youth Championship under 24 years old.
