Yakutian grapplers set for performances in Mongolia
Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, is set to host the international wrestling tournament, the Ulaanbaatar Open, commencing tomorrow. The freestyle wrestling competitions will see participation from 81 wrestlers hailing from Australia, Belarus, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, Russia, Mexico, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Turkey.
Notable attendees include Olympic champion Pavel Piniugin from Yakutia and two-time Olympic champion Sergei Beloglazov from Kaliningrad. The tournament, organized by United World Wrestling (UWW), is the third ranking event this year, following competitions in Croatia and Albania, with another scheduled in Hungary.
The top 10 finishers of the tournament will garner the most points, influencing the individual World Ranking by year-end and the draw for the World Championships. In the 57 kg weight class, Russian team member Lev Pavlov, the silver medalist at the Russian Championship and the Yarygin Cup, will compete, facing Rahul from India in his opening match.
Two-time Oceania champion Georgii Okorokov from Australia will shift his focus from the 65 kg class to the 61 kg class, squaring off against World Championships U23 bronze medalist Bekbolot Myrnaraz uulu from Kyrgyzstan in his initial bout. Russian bronze medalist at the Yarygin Cup Konstantin Kaprynov from Churapcha will compete in the 70 kg class, challenging European and World champion Zagir Shahiyev in the qualifiers.
