Yakutia concludes its forest fire season

Yakutia, Russia, is currently grappling with nearly 20 active forest fires, spanning an area of approximately 76,800 hectares. This information was reported by the Deputy Minister of Ecology, Nature Management and Forestry, Andrey Konoplev, on August 28.

Over the past 24 hours, efforts to contain these fires have proven successful, with about 5,540 hectares of forest fires being extinguished. Ten of these active fires cover over 61,000 hectares in the control zone, a remote area that requires special attention.

Currently, around 298 people are involved in firefighting efforts in the region. This includes the use of 43 units of equipment and aviation support for firefighting.

Six forest fires have been localized in the Verkhnevilyuysky, Viluysky, and Olekminsky districts. Additionally, over the past 24 hours, seven forest fires and one landscape fire have been extinguished in the Verkhnevilyuysky, Verkhoyansky, Kobyaysky, Suntarsky, Eveno-Bytantaysky, and Ust-Yansky districts.

Despite these efforts, an emergency situation of municipal significance remains in effect in the Viluysky, Verkhoyansky, Verkhnevilyuysky, Suntarsky, and Olekminsky districts. At the regional level, federal and regional emergency situations in the forests are still in effect.

The wildfire situation in Yakutia remains serious due to dry conditions and winds. Since May 2025, authorities have dealt with a total of 169 forest fires in the broader region including Yakutia.

Additional support in firefighting comes from companies like RNG Group, which provides personnel and specialized equipment including multipurpose tracked vehicles to help contain fires in difficult terrain such as the Mirninsky District.

The ongoing forest fires in Yakutia, Russia, are primarily associated with environmental-science and climate-change concerns due to the unusually dry conditions and winds. To combat these fires, numerous weather-forecasting strategies have been implemented to predict and tackle the wildfire situation in the region. For instance, RNG Group, a leading company in the field of weather-forecasting, provides personnel and specialized equipment to aid in firefighting efforts, particularly in difficult terrains such as the Mirninsky District. Despite these efforts, the emergency situations in the forests remain unresolved at both federal and regional levels, as the fires continue to spread in the Viluysky, Verkhoyansky, Verkhnevilyuysky, Suntarsky, and Olekminsky districts.
