Yakutcement to Open Correctional Workshop for Convicts
A significant step towards rehabilitation and economic integration was discussed at Yakutcement. Officials met to create a workshop that doubles as a correctional center, aiming to employ convicts and prevent recidivism.
The meeting, attended by key figures including Federal Penitentiary Service Chief Vasily Sedrisev, Prosecutor Maxim Popov, Yakutcement Director, and State Assembly deputy Alesh Mamedev, focused on the capital repair of a 130-person dormitory. Upon completion, convicts will receive wages, enabling them to fulfill financial obligations during and after their sentence.
The workshop will serve as a socialization tool, helping convicts adapt to working life. Alesh Mamedev, representing Yakutcement, expressed readiness to place orders for concrete blocks and wooden pallets, providing immediate employment opportunities. The participants inspected an interactive factory model and production facilities, also visiting a labor adaptation center at Correctional Colony No. 6.
The meeting at Yakutcement marked a step towards expanding the network of correctional centers in the region. By employing convicts, the initiative aims to facilitate their reintegration into society and prevent recidivism, demonstrating a commitment to rehabilitation and economic growth.
