Three participants in a Pegida demonstration have faced charges for a reported xenophobic attack on a 16-year-old Afghan bystander, according to the Dresden prosecutor's office. The three suspects, aged between 48 and 50, are accused of causing grievous bodily harm and will stand trial at the local court.
The disturbing incident occurred in Dresden's old town during a Pegida demonstration in April 2023 when the victim accidentally wandered into the protest. The prosecutor's office alleges that the three men struck the teenager repeatedly, causing him to suffer a black eye, shoulder pain, and additional injuries.
The Pegida group, originally founded in Dresden in late 2014, is well-known for its anti-Islam and anti-foreigner stance and is officially recognized as far-right by the Saxon state office for the protection of the constitution. The group serves as a "networking platform" within the far-right scene, although attendance at its demonstrations has markedly declined in recent times.
As the 16-year-old attempted to cross the demonstration via a pedestrian crossing, an unidentified protester pushed him, causing him to stumble towards the three accused. The prosecutor's office asserts that the men acted based on xenophobic motives. At the time of writing, the accused have not commented on the allegations.

It should be noted that while these charges mark a recent development, as of my last update, no news has emerged regarding the current status of a trial regarding the April 2023 xenophobic attack. However, there have been some legal actions related to similar incidents involving Pegida supporters. To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on the trial, it is best to consult relevant legal or news sources directly.
The Commission, in the midst of politics and general-news, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation. This move comes amidst a recent development in the crime-and-justice domain where three participants in a Pegida demonstration are facing charges for a reported xenophobic attack on a 16-year-old Afghan bystander.
