Prepare to be shook, 'cause the streets just lost a legend! Xatar, the notorious gangster rapper, has joined the great crew up above at the tender age of 43. Authorities have confirmed his demise in a Cologne apartment, although some rumors circulate he might've breathed his last in Berlin. The cause of his death, as of now, remains a mystery.
The Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation, aiming to uncover any hints of "criminally relevant external factors" in Xatar's death. Conducted autopsies revealed no external injuries, leaving many questions unanswered. The investigation continues.
Born as Giwar Hajabi to a well-known composer and conductor, Xatar's family fled from Iran to Iraq during the 80s before settling in Bonn. He spent his childhood there, moving to Cologne later in life. In 2008, he started the label Alles oder Nix Records, signing talents like SSIO and Schwesta Ewa.
Xatar skyrocketed to fame in 2009 after orchestrating a gold heist worth €1.7 million with his accomplices. He served eight years in prison, increasing his popularity even more. From prison cells to the top of charts, Xatar released his album "Nr 415" and later "Baba aller Babas," which both topped the German charts.
Offstage, Xatar dabbled in entrepreneurship. He ran a jewelry business, doner kebab shop, and shisha bar. In 2022, he established the Goldmann Tower in Cologne, intending it as the focal point of his new label, Goldmann Music. Sadly, the company declared bankruptcy in 2023. Director Fatih Akin's upcoming film "Rheingold" delves into Xatar's controversial life story.
The music magazine "Rolling Stone" hinted at Xatar's health woes. In 2021, he reportedly had a near-death experience and decided to take it easy, taking a day off each week. He also reportedly lost 50 kilograms to address health concerns raised by his doctor.
Marina Buzunashvilli, Xatar's former promoter, posted a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram: "Until we meet again." Haftbefehl, a fellow rapper, shared a tender photo on Instagram, saying: "I'm at a loss for words, my brother. May you rest in peace now." Farid Bang, another rapper, also extended his condolences.
