Xatar, renowned figure in the gangster rap genre, passes away.

Get the latest: Iconic rapper, Xatar (real name Giwar Hajabi), has tragically passed away at the age of 43. His lifeless body was discovered in a Cologne apartment on a fateful Thursday evening, according to reports from the Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office. The exact cause of his demise remains a mystery.

The offices of Cologne prosecutors have launched an investigation, known as a "death inquiry," to unravel any potential indication of "criminally relevant external influence" in Xatar's sudden passing. A post-mortem examination was performed as well, yet no external injuries were uncovered. As the investigation unfolds, further revelations may surface.

Born in 1981, Xatar hailed from a family of esteemed musicians. His father was a celebrated composer and conductor, and his mother a renowned musician in Iran. Fleeing the turmoil of the 1980s, the family settled in Bonn, where Xatar spent his early years before relocating to Cologne. In 2008, he founded the flourishing label Alles oder Nix Records, quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the rap world and signing talents like SSIO and Schwesta Ewa.

A Rapper's Rise to Fame and Fall from Grace

Xatar gained national recognition in 2009 after orchestrating a grand gold heist, along with his accomplices, making off with a fortune worth 1.7 million euros. In 2011, he was sentenced to eight years in prison. Regrettably, the pilfered gold was never recovered.

Xatar's incarceration inadvertently catapulted him to stardom as a rapper. From behind bars, he recorded his album, "Nr 415," named after his prison cell. Released in 2014, he was granted early release from prison. In 2015, his album "Baba aller Babas" topped the German charts.

Besides his music, Xatar was an enterprising businessman. He delved into the jewelry business, operated a doner kebab shop, and owned a shisha bar. In 2022, he established the "Goldmann Tower" in Cologne, the centerpiece of his new music label Goldmann Music. However, the company filed for bankruptcy in 2023. The life of Xatar is chronicled in Director Fatih Akin's film "Rheingold."

Reports from the magazine "Rolling Stone" suggest that Xatar struggled with health concerns in the recent past. In 2021, he apparently suffered a health scare. Consequently, he announced he would take a day off per week. Moreover, he declared losing a significant 50 kilograms after his doctor warned him about health complications.

Xatar's former promoter, Marina Buzunashvilli, posted a touching tribute on Instagram with the words, "Goodbye, until we meet again." Rapper Haftbefehl shared a heartfelt photo with Xatar, lamenting, "Words fail me, my brother. I hope you're in a better place now." Rapper Farid Bang also expressed his condolences.
