Wyoming's Secretary Gray Outlines Citizenship Verification Voting Prerequisites at Conference for State Secretaries
Wyoming Secretary of State to Discuss Election Integrity Measures at Town Hall Meeting
Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray will be holding a Town Hall meeting on August 8 at the Tongue River Community Center in Dayton, Sheridan County, Wyoming. The meeting, which is part of Gray's ongoing series, is scheduled for 4 pm and is open to the public.
The focus of the discussion at the Town Hall meeting will be on the continued efforts to advance election integrity by Gray's office. This includes Wyoming's documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) voting requirements, which were presented by Secretary Gray at the 2025 National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) conference in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Wyoming is currently the only state requiring such proof both for new voter registrations and for updates to existing registrations. The materials allowed for documentation such as a passport, birth certificate, or naturalization papers.
Gray emphasized a three-pronged approach to implementing proof-of-citizenship requirements nationwide, including advancing and supporting President Trump's Executive Order Preserving and Protecting American Elections, passing the federal SAVE Act to codify such requirements, and encouraging states to enact similar proof-of-citizenship laws like Wyoming's.
The Town Hall meeting will also cover the efforts to stop business fraud in Wyoming. Despite no documented pattern of noncitizen voting, opponents have argued that Wyoming’s law could disenfranchise eligible voters who may have trouble accessing or matching the required documents, including low-income, rural, and minority voters. A federal lawsuit challenging Wyoming’s law was dismissed for lack of standing but the court did not rule on the constitutionality or merits of the law itself, so the law remains in effect.
The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) is made up of Secretaries of State from across the United States. The conference was held in Biloxi, Mississippi, and at the conference, Gray presented the State's DPOC voting requirements to his fellow Secretaries of State.
The Town Hall meeting in Dayton will provide an opportunity for the public to engage with Gray about his office's work and ask questions about the DPOC voting requirements and other election integrity measures. For more information, contact the Wyoming Secretary of State's office.
