Wyoming's football opposition analysis for Colorado University Buffs game
The Colorado Buffaloes (1-2, 0-1 Big 12) and Wyoming Cowboys (2-1, 0-0 MWC) are set to square off this Saturday in a highly anticipated clash. Both teams are looking to bounce back from recent losses and establish themselves as contenders in their respective conferences.
On the Colorado side, the focus will be on the talented receiver room, as the Buffaloes aim to extract more production from their gifted playmakers. Freshman MaxPreps national prep player of the year Quentin Gibson has shown explosiveness on kickoff returns, offering a glimmer of hope for the struggling offense.
Defensively, the Buffaloes have had some issues at times, particularly in the secondary. Wyoming's quarterback, Kaden Anderson, could potentially exploit these vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, safety Tawfiq Byard led the team with 14 tackles in last week's game at Houston. Linebacker Shaun Myers has also made an impact, recording 10 tackles in limited playing time this season.
Tight end Zach Atkins has caught four passes so far, three of which came with Kaidon Salter at quarterback. Salter is expected to return to the starting role after being benched last week. The Buffaloes lost their last game at Houston, 36-20.
Head coach Deion Sanders is entering his third season with a record of 14-14 and a career record of 41-20.
On the other hand, Wyoming's offense has struggled to generate much offensively in the first three games, aside from their 31-point outing against FCS Northern Iowa. The Cowboys boast a solid rushing game, averaging 158.7 yards per game, and have three capable backs.
Transfer LB Brayden Johnson from Oklahoma Baptist has been a standout for the Cowboys, recording 20 tackles, an interception, a pass breakup, and a QB hurry.
Wyoming's quarterback, Anderson, is a pocket passer with arm talent and good weapons in receiver Chris Durr and tight end John Michael Gyllenborg. However, his consistency has been questionable.
The special teams units have been a strength for both teams. The Buffaloes have excelled in the kicking game, with Buck Buchanan for touchbacks, Damon Greaves for punting, and Alejandro Mata for field goals and extra points. Wyoming's special teams have shown a knack for blocking kicks.
This promises to be an exciting match-up, with both teams eager to make a statement. Don't miss out on the action as the Colorado Buffaloes and Wyoming Cowboys face off this Saturday.
